The Complete Guide to Leasing a Used BMW

Can you lease a used BMW?

Yes. Second Life Leasing offers pre-leased BMW cars for personal and business leasing in the UK, with full maintenance and premium replacement tyres included. Browse our BMW listings for the specific cars, photographs and lease options available today.

You choose a specific car with its own photographs, specification and recorded mileage. Pay an initial rental followed by monthly rentals, then return the car at the agreed end. Applications are subject to approval.

Where does my BMW come from?

Second Life Leasing’s BMW cars come directly from Lex Autolease, part of Lloyds Banking Group, after their first lease. Lex continues to own the car and offers it for another lease. We help you choose and arrange it; your hire agreement is with Lex Autolease.

A first lease with a known history

Lex bought the car from new and managed its first lease, with agreed mileage, servicing and return standards. That gives your next BMW a known leasing history. The individual listing and vehicle information tell you about the particular car you are considering.

Safety checks and preparation

Each car goes through safety checks and preparation for its next driver. It is still a used car, and we will highlight known minor cosmetic imperfections before you decide, so you can picture what will arrive.

What are the current BMW lease prices?

The car you choose, contract term, annual mileage and payment profile all affect the rental. Compare the initial payment as well as the monthly figure when deciding what fits your budget.

Explore our latest pre-leased BMW stock below, with live lease prices. Open a listing for the car’s photographs, specification and available lease options.

Which BMW model and version should you choose?

i4: a lower electric car with hatchback access

The i4 Gran Coupé gives you a lower driving position than BMW’s SUVs, with a rear hatch for luggage. Compare eDrive35 and eDrive40 around the battery and journey requirements of the particular car. For commuting with occasional longer trips, that choice deserves attention before you decide which styling pack you prefer.

The original eDrive40 drives the rear wheels; the M50 adds a second motor and all-wheel drive. BMW’s launch-generation technical guide explains the layout. An M50 is a performance choice, so put its extra capability alongside the rental rather than assuming it is the necessary step up for every driver. Try rear-seat access and headroom if adults will regularly travel behind you.

i5 Touring: an electric estate for a larger load

The i5 Touring introduced in 2024 offers the estate alternative to an i4 or an SUV. The eDrive40 is worth considering when your priority is carrying luggage with a lower body shape. Measure your dog crate, sports equipment or holiday load against the actual luggage area; the car’s length also matters when parking.

iX1 and iX2: two compact SUV shapes

The iX1 suits a preference for a more upright SUV body. The iX2 offers a more sloping rear roofline, making rear headroom and the loading opening useful comparison points. They should be chosen around the people and kit you carry, not just which silhouette appeals.

Keep the drive badges separate from the model names. The iX1 xDrive30 has two electric motors; an iX2 eDrive20 is a different drive specification. Compare the exact version’s battery, driven wheels and AC charging capability rather than assuming every small electric BMW is mechanically identical.

iX3 and iX: choose the SUV generation as well as the size

The 2022–24 iX3 is the earlier electric SUV generation, with rear-wheel drive. Assess it on that specification rather than borrowing the battery or charging figures of the newer Neue Klasse iX3. Its familiar SUV shape makes passenger access and the boot worth comparing directly with an iX1.

The iX is the larger alternative. Compare the earlier xDrive40 with later xDrive45 and xDrive60 cars by the actual battery, equipment and dimensions shown for the vehicle. A larger SUV needs to earn its place through the cabin room you will use; check your garage width and regular parking spaces too.

330e and X1 plug-in hybrids: petrol and electric in one car

The 330e comes as a Saloon or Touring, while X1 25e and 30e versions provide an SUV alternative. These combine a petrol engine with a rechargeable battery. Regular plugging in is what lets you use the electric side for local journeys; petrol remains part of the running costs.

For a Touring, try the load you normally carry against the hybrid’s luggage area. For an X1, identify its generation before comparing battery and cabin details: the model changed substantially during the registration years you may see. A plug-in hybrid and an iX1 offer different ownership routines even when the bodies look similar.

Choose the equipment you will use

M Sport is an equipment and styling label, while xDrive describes the drive layout. Look beyond either badge to the options you will use: parking cameras, seats, wheel size and charging equipment. A Technology or Pro pack can add useful features, but its contents need checking against that car’s generation.

Equipment and charging specifications can change during production. Confirm the manufacturer’s specification, fitted options, cables and any connected-service subscriptions for the actual car before ordering; registration year and trim name alone do not tell the whole story.

What comes with my BMW lease?

Second Life Leasing’s full maintenance package brings the routine upkeep into your lease, helping you plan for more than the rental alone.

Servicing, maintenance and premium replacement tyres

Servicing, maintenance, replacement tyres and MOT when required are included. Replacement tyres are premium brands, with mobile fitting where possible. Collection and return for servicing and maintenance are included, subject to limitations.

Breakdown cover and road fund tax

Breakdown cover includes a replacement vehicle for up to 48 hours if needed, plus cover for driving abroad. Check the overseas arrangements with Lex before travelling. Road fund tax is included for the duration of your lease.

Online support

The Lex Vehicle Leasing app gives you a way to book servicing, request support and find your contract documents. Use the lease company’s support route for your maintained agreement.

What do I pay for separately?

Allow for insurance and fuel or charging. Your quote and agreement also explain applicable fees and contract charges, including excess mileage and damage charges. Included maintenance helps with budgeting without making every motoring cost fixed.

What happens if my BMW develops a fault?

Contact Lex Autolease through its support process. Under Second Life Leasing’s full maintenance offering, Lex arranges covered repairs in line with your agreement, so you have a clear route to getting help.

Does the manufacturer’s warranty matter?

Where a manufacturer’s warranty applies, Lex handles the claim behind the scenes. Your repair support follows the maintained lease agreement; you do not need to work out the remaining manufacturer’s warranty before reporting a problem.

What about an electric BMW’s battery?

Our pre-leased battery-electric BMW cars come with a guaranteed minimum battery condition of 85% at delivery. That is a delivery baseline, rather than a guarantee throughout the lease or a promise of a particular driving range.

Can I choose the term and mileage?

Yes. Each car’s listing shows its available contract terms, annual mileage allowances and payment profiles. Choose mileage around your normal year, including commuting, business journeys and holidays.

The payment profile determines how much you pay initially and in subsequent rentals. Choose a term you are comfortable committing to, and review the agreement’s provisions and charges for changing or ending it early.

Personal or business leasing?

You can apply for Personal Contract Hire in your own name or Business Contract Hire for your business. The live examples in this guide are personal rentals including VAT, even if you are browsing in Business mode. Select Business to explore business prices on the stock pages, or ask us for the appropriate quote.

Why choose a pre-leased BMW?

More of the car you want within your budget

BMW gives you a useful choice between a lower electric car, an estate and several SUV sizes, as well as plug-in hybrids for a different charging routine. A pre-leased BMW has already been through its initial depreciation. Leasing it at its used value can mean a lower rental than leasing new, with the individual quote showing what that means for your chosen car. You can put the rental alongside your other regular costs and decide whether the whole package works for you.

Giving an electric BMW another lease of life

Choosing a pre-leased battery-electric BMW keeps an existing car and its battery in use. Battery-electric BMW cars produce no tailpipe emissions while driving. Manufacturing and charging electricity still contribute to their overall footprint.

UK government guidance explains that a typical electric car has lower lifetime greenhouse-gas emissions than an equivalent petrol car, including battery production and disposal. That is general EV evidence, rather than a measured saving for an individual used BMW.

A scheduled return without finding a buyer

At the agreed end, return the BMW subject to the mileage and condition terms. Lex owns and resells it and takes the resale-value risk. You can choose your next car without arranging a private sale or negotiating a part-exchange.

How do I arrange my BMW lease?

  1. Tell us which BMW interests you. We will help you choose from the available cars and confirm the details that matter to you.
  2. Review your quote. We will place a temporary reservation while you look through the figures.
  3. Complete the paperwork online. We will guide you through the credit application and your agreement with Lex Autolease.
  4. Take delivery. Once your application is approved and the car is ready, we will arrange included mainland UK delivery to your door.
