Used Car Leasing FAQ

Plain English answers about used car leasing, what is included, and what to check before reserving.

Used car leasing means using a specific pre-leased vehicle for an agreed term and mileage, then handing it back at the end. You are not buying the car, and you are not waiting for a factory order.

The questions below cover the practical bits: where the cars come from, what is included, delivery, maintenance, reservations, mileage and what to check before you commit.

Quick answer

Second Life Leasing used vehicles are sourced directly from leasing companies, fully prepared before delivery and offered as maintained leases. Servicing, maintenance, tyres, MOT when required, Road Fund Tax, breakdown cover and mainland UK delivery are included. You still need to insure the car, look after it, keep within the agreed mileage or allow for excess mileage charges, and check the written quote and contract for your own terms.

It means leasing a car that has already had a first lease, rather than ordering a brand-new factory vehicle. You are not buying the car. You use it for the agreed term and mileage, make the agreed payments, and return it at the end.

For example, you might lease a specific three-year-old electric car for 24 or 36 months with a set annual mileage. The monthly rental reflects that used vehicle.

Yes. The vehicles shown are intended to be in stock and ready to move, not long-wait factory orders. Because each used lease is normally one specific vehicle, availability can change quickly once another customer reserves or orders it.

Second Life Leasing used vehicles are sourced directly from leasing companies. They are owned by the leasing company, placed with their first driver, and managed through a formal lease contract before being prepared for their next lease.

That means the car is not a random used vehicle bought from an unknown source and put straight back out. It is a pre-leased vehicle with known details, controlled usage and a preparation process before it is offered for its next lease.

Every vehicle is safety checked and fully prepared before delivery. These are pre-leased cars with known history and controlled usage, not random used cars sourced from unknown places.

A used car may have small age- and mileage-related marks. Any known minor cosmetic imperfections are highlighted in advance.

Servicing, maintenance, tyres and MOT when required are included. Road Fund Tax is included for the duration of the lease. Full breakdown cover is included too, with a replacement vehicle for up to 48 hours if needed and cover for driving abroad.

This can make budgeting clearer because many routine running-cost items are built into the agreement. Insurance, fuel or charging, fines, excess mileage, avoidable damage and any contract-specific charges remain separate customer responsibilities.

Yes. Replacement tyres are included as part of the maintained package, with premium brands fitted as standard and mobile fitting available where possible. MOT is included when required during the lease. Tyres still need to be looked after properly, as damage from impact, misuse or neglect may be treated differently from normal wear.

Mainland UK delivery is included. Vehicles are available now and typically delivered within 14 days, subject to preparation, paperwork, approval, logistics and location. If timing is important, ask before reserving so the likely delivery position can be checked against that vehicle.

For electric vehicles, battery condition is guaranteed at a minimum of 85%. Real-world range will still vary with weather, speed, driving style, load, tyre condition and charging habits, just as it does with any electric vehicle.

Servicing, breakdowns, support requests, contract documents and vehicle-related tasks can be managed online through the support process. Collection and return for servicing and maintenance are included at no extra cost, although limitations may apply.

You check the quote details, complete the reservation form, and the vehicle is reserved for up to 5 working days while the next steps are worked through. A reservation holds the vehicle; it is not the same as confirmed finance approval or a booked delivery date.

The quote shows an annual mileage allowance and an excess mileage charge. If the vehicle is returned over the agreed mileage, excess mileage charges may apply. Choosing a realistic mileage at the start helps the quote reflect how the car is likely to be used.

Usually, yes. There is a dedicated personalised number plate process, but DVLA authorisation is required and the plate needs to be transferred or retained correctly. Mention the plate early so it can be handled before delivery.

If a broker administration fee applies, it will be shown in the quote journey. It is not payable at quote stage. It is only payable after positive credit approval and after the required fee information notice has been sent and confirmed.

Before you reserve

If anything is unclear, just ask. Delivery timing, vehicle condition, maintenance support, mileage and documents are all normal things to check before reserving a used lease car.
