The Complete Guide to Leasing a Used BYD

Can you lease a used BYD?

Yes. Second Life Leasing offers pre-leased BYD cars for personal and business leasing in the UK, with full maintenance and premium replacement tyres included. Explore our current BYD stock to compare the particular cars available.

You choose a specific car with its own photographs, specification and recorded mileage. Pay an initial rental followed by monthly rentals, then return the car at the agreed end. Applications are subject to approval.

Where does my BYD come from?

Second Life Leasing’s BYD cars come directly from Lex Autolease, part of Lloyds Banking Group, after their first lease. Lex continues to own the car and offers it for another lease. We help you choose and arrange it; your hire agreement is with Lex Autolease.

A first lease with a known history

Lex bought the car from new and managed its first lease, with agreed mileage, servicing and return standards. That gives your next BYD a known leasing history. The individual listing and vehicle information tell you about the particular car you are considering.

Safety checks and preparation

Each car goes through safety checks and preparation for its next driver. It is still a used car, and we will highlight known minor cosmetic imperfections before you decide, so you can picture what will arrive.

What are the current BYD lease prices?

The car you choose, contract term, annual mileage and payment profile all affect the rental. Compare the initial payment as well as the monthly figure when deciding what fits your budget.

Explore our latest pre-leased BYD stock below, with live lease prices. Open a listing for the car’s photographs, specification and available lease options.

Which BYD model and version should you choose?

Dolphin: an electric hatchback for everyday journeys

The Dolphin is the starting point if you want a conventional five-door hatchback rather than an SUV. Comfort and Design versions with the 60.4kWh battery are worth comparing for commuting, shopping and regular local trips. Start with the seating position, rear-seat access and the space left for bags when everyone is aboard; a compact exterior still needs to accommodate your own passengers and luggage.

The Dolphin model information describes this electric hatchback. Keep it separate from the smaller Dolphin Surf: the similar name does not make them the same car. Comfort and Design are equipment grades, so compare the fitted specification as well as the rental.

Atto 3: a more upright family choice

Move to the Atto 3 if you prefer an SUV-style seating position and a rear hatch for family luggage. The original Atto 3 has a flat rear floor and a 440-litre boot according to BYD’s model guide. That makes it a useful car to compare with the Dolphin when the weekly load includes a pushchair, sports bags or several passengers.

Try the actual loading opening and boot floor against what you carry; a litre figure cannot show whether a particular buggy fits comfortably. Judge the original Atto 3 on its own specification rather than assuming features advertised for a later Atto 3 Evo apply to it.

Seal: a lower saloon, with two distinct drive layouts

The Seal is the alternative if you would rather sit in a lower saloon than a taller crossover. Its separate boot opening makes the shape of your luggage important: check bulky cases and rear-seat access alongside the more sporting silhouette.

In the original UK range, Design is rear-wheel drive and Excellence AWD uses two motors for all-wheel drive. The 2023 UK specification sets out that distinction. Choose the layout around how you intend to use the car, then compare equipment. A more powerful version does not automatically give you the most suitable everyday package.

Sealion 7: more SUV presence and hatchback access

The Sealion 7 offers an SUV body and rear hatch for drivers drawn to the Seal’s electric approach but wanting a different seating and loading arrangement. Compare parking-space width, the height of the loading lip and rear headroom with the Atto 3; a larger vehicle changes daily access as well as passenger accommodation.

The UK launch range distinguishes Comfort rear-wheel drive from Excellence AWD. Excellence also has a larger battery than Comfort. Compare the actual battery and charging specification, rather than assuming all Sealion 7 versions are mechanically identical. The Sealion 7 is battery-electric; it should not be confused with the differently powered Seal U DM-i.

Choose the equipment you will use

For a BYD, put the interface on your shortlist alongside the body style: check how you use navigation, phone connection and the rotating centre screen. Ask for confirmation of the included keys, charging cables and the exact parking-camera equipment, especially when comparing Comfort, Design and Excellence names across different models.

Equipment and charging specifications can change during production. Confirm the manufacturer’s specification, fitted options, cables and any connected-service subscriptions for the actual car before ordering; registration year and trim name alone do not tell the whole story.

What comes with my BYD lease?

Second Life Leasing’s full maintenance package brings the routine upkeep into your lease, helping you plan for more than the rental alone.

Servicing, maintenance and premium replacement tyres

Servicing, maintenance, replacement tyres and MOT when required are included. Replacement tyres are premium brands, with mobile fitting where possible. Collection and return for servicing and maintenance are included, subject to limitations.

Breakdown cover and road fund tax

Breakdown cover includes a replacement vehicle for up to 48 hours if needed, plus cover for driving abroad. Check the overseas arrangements with Lex before travelling. Road fund tax is included for the duration of your lease.

Online support

The Lex Vehicle Leasing app gives you a way to book servicing, request support and find your contract documents. Use the lease company’s support route for your maintained agreement.

What do I pay for separately?

Allow for insurance and fuel or charging. Your quote and agreement also explain applicable fees and contract charges, including excess mileage and damage charges. Included maintenance helps with budgeting without making every motoring cost fixed.

What happens if my BYD develops a fault?

Contact Lex Autolease through its support process. Under Second Life Leasing’s full maintenance offering, Lex arranges covered repairs in line with your agreement, so you have a clear route to getting help.

Does the manufacturer’s warranty matter?

Where a manufacturer’s warranty applies, Lex handles the claim behind the scenes. Your repair support follows the maintained lease agreement; you do not need to work out the remaining manufacturer’s warranty before reporting a problem.

What about an electric BYD’s battery?

Our pre-leased battery-electric BYD cars come with a guaranteed minimum battery condition of 85% at delivery. That is a delivery baseline, rather than a guarantee throughout the lease or a promise of a particular driving range.

Can I choose the term and mileage?

Yes. Each car’s listing shows its available contract terms, annual mileage allowances and payment profiles. Choose mileage around your normal year, including commuting, business journeys and holidays.

The payment profile determines how much you pay initially and in subsequent rentals. Choose a term you are comfortable committing to, and review the agreement’s provisions and charges for changing or ending it early.

Personal or business leasing?

You can apply for Personal Contract Hire in your own name or Business Contract Hire for your business. The live examples in this guide are personal rentals including VAT, even if you are browsing in Business mode. Select Business to explore business prices on the stock pages, or ask us for the appropriate quote.

Why choose a pre-leased BYD?

More of the car you want within your budget

BYD gives you a useful choice between an everyday electric hatchback, a lower saloon and taller family SUVs. A pre-leased BYD has already been through its initial depreciation. Leasing it at its used value can mean a lower rental than leasing new, with the individual quote showing what that means for your chosen car. You can put the rental alongside your other regular costs and decide whether the whole package works for you.

Giving an electric BYD another lease of life

Choosing a pre-leased battery-electric BYD keeps an existing car and its battery in use. Battery-electric BYD cars produce no tailpipe emissions while driving. Manufacturing and charging electricity still contribute to their overall footprint.

UK government guidance explains that a typical electric car has lower lifetime greenhouse-gas emissions than an equivalent petrol car, including battery production and disposal. That is general EV evidence, rather than a measured saving for an individual used BYD.

A scheduled return without finding a buyer

At the agreed end, return the BYD subject to the mileage and condition terms. Lex owns and resells it and takes the resale-value risk. You can choose your next car without arranging a private sale or negotiating a part-exchange.

How do I arrange my BYD lease?

  1. Tell us which BYD interests you. We will help you choose from the available cars and confirm the details that matter to you.
  2. Review your quote. We will place a temporary reservation while you look through the figures.
  3. Complete the paperwork online. We will guide you through the credit application and your agreement with Lex Autolease.
  4. Take delivery. Once your application is approved and the car is ready, we will arrange included mainland UK delivery to your door.
